Gong Workshop with Ken Little Sunday April 13 10am-6pm
One full-day workshop exploring the meditative, creative, and magical sounds of the gong.
Training includes access to play over a dozen gongs and instruments to play and explore. Come and experience the enigmatic and curious nature of the gong. I'll present to you basic techniques for evoking a world of sounds out of these beautiful instruments, and guide you through a group performance at the end of our day.
Please come join me for a widening of your sonic horizon. No musical background necessary, just an open-heart and mind.
What to Expect
Wonder. Curiousity. Fun.
You'll be invited to explore depths of deep listening, curiosity and play while having the opportunity to engage with a curated set of beautiful instruments.
I hope you leave the course with a sense of joy and wonder about how gongs or other musical instruments can provide you with a space for self-reflection and meditation, along with skills and techniques to develop a sensitive ear for playing the gongs in any direction you are called. You will receive a letter for completing the workshop, but this is not a "certification" nor do I provide such designations.
I will discuss my philosophy of ego, mastery, and development of skills for our own practices relating to gongs and music for meditation and sound practitioners.
There will be a one hour lunch break provided.
About Ken:
Ken is an artist operating at the boundaries of mindfulness, experimental ambient music, whole person care, and end of life centred mediation. As a musician Ken focuses on expanding our concepts of the possible for large metal instruments including gongs, cymbals, bowls and chimes. His focus on creating expressive drone structures with friction mallets and less conventional techniques opens up traditional instruments to entirely new and captivating soundscapes. Under the moniker Resonant Transitions, Ken offers instruction, facilitated mediation, and music designed to hold space for mindfulness practices and opening the door to conversations on grief, loss and dying
I look forward to meeting you and sharing my love of the gongs with you.
