Join Kiko for an immersive weekend exploring the art and science of sound baths and therapeutic sound. This two day in person training will focus on the theory and practice of sound meditations. We will learn through discussion, interactive time with instruments, and deep listening exercises. This training will provide you with foundational skills to work with sound as a tool for healing and deeper connection.

Sound meditations offer us the chance to explore creatively, both as practitioners and listeners. We learn how to listen better and through that process we learn how to create spaces for listening that offer deeper states of rest, relaxation and imagination.

Guest Faculty: Charlie Gates (via Zoom). Charlie will be teaching the science and impact of sound. For more information on Charlie @soundsbycharlie on Instagram.

Who is this training for?

This training is open to those beginning their sound journey for personal practice or to become a facilitator. It is open to those with experience in other modalities of therapeutic/meditative work and it is also open to more experienced sound practitioners who wish to finesse and diversify their current offerings. A level 2 sound training will be offered in Fall 2024 with Charlie + Kiko. You must have completed this course or a previous course with Charlie + Kiko to attend level 2.

Instruments we will primarily be working with: tuning torks, chimes, crystal bowls, gongs, your own unique voice.

You do not need any instruments to participate. You will have access to all the instruments at Kikospace during the training to practice with (crystal bowls, chimes, gongs, shruti, sansula, rattles, drums). You are welcome to bring in your own instruments too. For those wanting to purchase instruments of their own: all sound students will receive 17% off all instruments (excluding gongs) at Kikospace from the time of registration until Apr 30, 2024

Included with training: Digital PDF training manual, a certificate of completion

Payment plans are available. Please reach out to coordinate details.

Two discounted scholarship spaces will also be made available for BBIMP (Black, Brown, Indigenous, Melanated people) - a term coined by Louiza "Weezeâ" Doran. Please reach out if you are interested in a scholarship space.

Dates: Sat April 27+ Sun April 28 from 10am-5pm

Each student will also be offered a 60 minute follow up one-on-one with Kiko to support ongoing sound practices.

Location: Kikospace 2104 Dundas St W, Toronto

More about Kiko ~ My sound journey, education and offerings:

I opened the door to deeper listening through my yoga practice. In 2016 I was traveling in India, studying yoga, and discovered the Svaram Sound Research Center. I was immediately and completely enchanted by their instruments and offerings. A year later, I went back and took their immersive sound program. From there, my commitment and dedication to the practice of sound became my passion. I have studied and done sound workshops with John Beaulieu (Creator of Biosonics Tuning Forks), Laraaji and Arji OceanAnanda, Carioca Freitas, Rainer Scheurenbrand, Silvia Nakkach, Sara Auster (certified level 3 Sound Training), Jessica Caplan, Anne Bourne, Deepak Kumar, Scott Peterson (Prince Enoki) and Cosmo Sheldrake. I am a graduate of the Nalanda Contemplative Psychotherapy program (2018) which weaves Buddhist philosophy with Western Psychology. I am also a certified Restorative and Yoga Nidra instructor. I have taken several different restorative trainings to learn the practice from different methodologies. Teachers include Abby Paloma, Scott Davis, YuMee Chung, and Andrea Peloso. My Yoga Nidra training was completed in Ireland with Cathy French in 2022. I currently mentor with Ally Bogard and am completing a three year program in Emotionally Integrative Voice Work with Fides Krucker. It is a great joy to be a forever student to the great mystery.

I began facilitating sound baths and therapeutic sound sessions for individuals in 2018 through my studio and at various yoga studios within Toronto. My offerings grew to include creating sound meditations for spaces such as the Art Gallery of Ontario, York University Gallery, OCADU Gallery. Blackwood Gallery, Queens University, The Saskatoon Symphony and the Remai Modern. In addition to my creative and private practice, I currently facilitate sound baths for schools, hospices, mental health facilities and corporate wellness events. Past clients include Montessori, Havergal College, CAMH, Youthdale, Dorothy Ley Hospice, Yabel Pushelberg, The Stephen Lewis Foundation, Coal Miner Theatre, Anomoly, Shopify and Google.

In 2018 I opened Kikospace in the Roncesvalles neighbourhood in Toronto. The space is a gallery, studio and shop and includes group sound baths, private therapeutic sound sessions, playshops, trainings, moon circles, Celtic Wheel gatherings, art exhibitions and collaborations. I also host a small instrument shop carrying high quality instruments from small makers.

Sound has been an integral part of my personal healing journey, a source of creativity, connection, wonder and magic. It is a great honour and privilege to share what I have learned from my teachers and practice. Sound is an inclusive and expansive practice that can open many windows of possibility. I look forward to learning together.
